How Wine HSV Grew Into a Tasting Club
What began as a small evening workshop for curious neighbours has become a steady community of learners who meet every month to taste, question and compare notes. We did not start with a grand plan — we started with a single table, a few bottles and the conviction that wine should feel approachable, not intimidating.
Each stage of the journey shaped the way we teach: the first sessions taught us how much people hesitate before asking basic questions, the early kits showed us which bottles travel well, and the online groups revealed how many beginners prefer to learn from home before joining a live table.
2019First Tasting at a Kitchen Table
Eight people, six bottles and a long evening of questions. That first session in Mysore made it clear that beginners wanted structure without jargon — so we wrote our first one-page guide to reading labels on the spot.
2021Monthly Kits Reach New Cities
After repeated requests from people who could not attend in person, we designed a simple monthly kit: three bottles, aroma cards and a printed pairing sheet. The kit became the backbone of the club and opened the door to virtual sessions.
2023Maridaje with Indian Food Takes Shape
A dedicated workshop series on pairing wine with Indian dishes changed how we structure our curriculum. We tested combinations with local cooks, documented what worked and turned those findings into a downloadable guide that members still request.
2024Community-Led Sessions Begin
Long-time members started hosting their own small tastings under our guidance. This shift from teacher-led to peer-led gatherings confirmed that the club had become a genuine community, not just a course.
2025Responsible Drinking Becomes a Core Theme
We formalised what had always been part of our sessions: clear guidance on moderate consumption, alcohol-free tasting options and honest conversations about limits. Every kit now includes a responsible drinking card alongside the tasting notes.
